The most personal portrait there is and you've never actually seen it.
Hi! I'm Angela — Founder, Flower City Iris
For over a decade, my hands have been my instrument. As an orthopedic massage therapist, I've spent thousands of hours learning bodies; the particular way tension holds in one shoulder and not another, the small asymmetries that make every person's structure entirely their own. Helping people find relief, and being part of the Rochester community's wellbeing, has been the steady center of my work life for twelve years. No two bodies I've worked on have ever been alike. That belief has shaped my whole career.
Flower City Iris started somewhere I didn't expect.
A few years ago, my parents had their irises photographed on vacation; two simple images that became a breathtaking piece of artwork now hanging in their home. I couldn't stop thinking about it. Recently, I found myself at my friends house, standing in front of her own merged iris print, talking about it every single visit. Something about it stayed with me, the same thing I'd spent years finding at the massage table: real, physical proof that no two of us are made the same way.
Eventually the thought became a plan. Flower City Iris, named for Rochester, the Flower City, is a mobile studio bringing that same close, careful looking to weddings, celebrations, and quiet studio sessions across Rochester, New York and the Finger Lakes. Every session moves at the pace I learned at the table: slow down, look closely, and let something true come into focus.
Whether you're standing in front of my camera on your wedding day or sitting for a private session, my aim is the same one it's always been; to help you see something about yourself you've never quite seen before.
Slow down, look closely, and let something true come into focus.
A few of my favorite things
Gabe
My husband, Gabe, has been endlessly supportive through every version of this idea, from "what if" to an actual life changing transition. We love doing all things Rochester. We can often be found at live music shows, art festivals, new restaurants, and baseball games. We also love to travel together and with family and friends. We have enjoyed Montreal, Toronto, Dominican Republic, Aruba, Denver, and Asheville this past year! We are planning to visit the coast of Spain Fall 2027!
Vito
Our mini poodle, Vito, supervises most of my paperwork and none of my deadlines. He is a rambunctious, playful, snuggly puppy that has brought both patience and so much joy to our lives.
Aruba
We go back to Aruba every year; it's become our place to slow all the way down. We love enjoying quality time with our close friends and family and encourage all to visit this One Happy Island! Perfect weather and lovely trade winds are what we dream about all year.
I have an identical twin sister Nicole and a brother Tom who have been my biggest cheerleaders since long before this business had a name, a sweet niece and nephew who make me laugh harder than almost anyone, and a circle of friends, family, and clients who have shown up for this new chapter in ways I don't take for granted. I love Rochester fiercely, and I'm grateful every day to be building something new in the community that's already given me over a decade of purpose.
No two alike: the eyes I photograph, and every story that leads someone to sit down in front of my camera.
A closer kind of attention.
